Honda NC 700
Although its main market is Europe, all NC family is assembled in Japan. The three machines in the range are based on a common platform (same chassis, same engine), in the purest spirit automobile. Thus, the NC 700 S roadster, trail and NC 700 X scooter Integral do they exhaust and engine, frame, wheels, and optical table common edge.
Twin is available in six-speed manual gearbox or Dual Clutch Transmission. The scooter Integral offers only this version DCT version 51.8 horses. The NC 700 X has been already available in manual transmission (47.5 c.) And DCT (51.8 c.). The NC 700 S will also be available in manual or DCT transmission. It will also develop 47.5 horsepower to comply with A2 license expected for 2013.
The twin line long stroke (bore x stroke 73 mm 80 mm) 670 cm3 is brand new, if not innovative. It embeds technical solutions to drastically reduce consumption and pollution, suggesting that it is going to last, excluding commercial flop course. This engine is tilted forward 62 °, in order to lower the center of gravity and – most importantly – create space in the upper part of the motorcycle. The real tank is placed under the saddle to center the masses, false hides a helmet compartment.
Compact, rational, efficient and unnecessary parts, twin NC 700 has different distribution patterns for each cylinder and a crankshaft wedged 270 °. The intake and exhaust are very short and collective. The iridium candles helping to optimize the combustion. Their life is advertised at 48 000 km. The catalyst ignores long usual collection tubes: willing to only a few centimeters from the exhaust, it warms up and goes into action as soon as possible.
Often as now, some mechanical parts overlap. The balancing shaft drives the oil pump, the one camshaft operate the water pump. Despite the antibody injection, each cylinder has its multi-hole injectors. The pistons have a specific surface treatment. Intervals revisions are recommended every 12 000 km. Side warranty, NC 700 S is entitled to only two years: the three-year warranty is in effect a service reserved by Honda to its high quality.
The diamond frame type steel NC 700 family was designed to lower the engine and allow the integration of the helmet compartment in the wrong tank. Formed of welded tubes, it is discreet, even if some find the quality of welds too close to those that were found on the first Kawasaki ER-6N. The non-removable rear loop remains close despite the introduction of the fuel tank of 14.1 liters.
Geometry of Honda is wise: 1525 mm wheelbase and 27 degrees of rake. The suspensions are classic, with a shock Prolink type and a telescopic fork 41 mm. The bike has only one disc front brake, and for good reason, thrift requires the two brake discs are cut from the same sheet of steel and the rear disc is cut from the central part Front disc, which often goes to scrap. Option C ABS provides extra safety and welcome pleasure.
The dashboard of the Honda NC 700 S is clear and fairly complete, with a fuel gauge, clock, various trips. The readability of the tachometer bars is not always ideal. We regret that the gear indicator is reserved only version of DCT, especially with such a linear motor, which does not warn when we will reach its limit.
Chest is really a helmet to use. We tested five brands and about ten models full: all are entered. This compartment also has an anchoring point for the G brand, but a helmet and you do not mix easily. The tightness of the chest is good, test the X version in the rain and the pressure washer support.
Pity also that, in the rain, as the false tank channeling the flow of water right to the crotch. In addition, its plastic ribs forbid the use of a magnetic bag. Especially the filling of the reservoir real problem if a saddle bag is used. Note that, according to your feedback on the maxi test on NC 700 X – built in the same mold – radiator and shock are very vulnerable to projections while the front fender protects poorly.
